SAS Viya Copilot is Now Available

We’re excited to announce that SAS Viya Copilot is now available as part of the SAS Viya platform in the stable 2025.12 release.

SAS Viya Copilot is a set of SaaS capabilities that use large language models (LLMs) to make working with SAS Viya more intuitive.

Powered by SAS technology and Microsoft Azure for secure, scalable cloud infrastructure. Using LLMs including gpt-4.1, gpt-4.1-nano, Phi-3-mini-128k-instruct (fine-tuned) and text-embedding-3-large.

It’s designed for developers, data scientists, citizen data scientists, and business analysts who need to write code, analyse data, build machine learning pipelines, and more.

What does SAS Viya Copilot do?

SAS Viya Copilot helps users work faster and more efficiently:

• Provides conversational, AI-driven assistance through a natural language interface.
• Helps build machine learning models and guide workflows.
• Recommends next steps and reduces manual effort for complex tasks.
• Speeds up decision-making and improves productivity.

How to activate SAS Viya Copilot

• SAS Viya Copilot is deployed as part of the SAS Viya platform (stable 2025.12 onwards).
• If your environment includes the supported product combination, you’ll see a new SAS Viya Copilot page in SAS Environment Manager.
• From there, you can activate the copilot. If the page isn’t visible, your current products don’t yet support activation.

Please Note:

• You cannot select which copilot capabilities you want to enable. Either all or none of the copilot capabilities are enabled.
• End users cannot enable the SAS Viya Copilot feature. Only a SAS Viya administrator can enable SAS Viya Copilot.

Considerations and Limitations

• SAS Viya Copilot is turned off by default.
• English-only support.
• Requires internet connectivity.
• No backward compatibility with earlier SAS Viya versions.
• Cannot customise LLM selection or enable partial features.
• Human oversight is essential for all outputs, consider legal and compliance obligations when you use SAS Viya Copilot, especially if you work in a regulated industry.
• Currently available in SAS Model Studio, SAS Extension for Visual Studio Codeand SAS Model Manager.
