SAS Viya Supports Multi-Availability Zone Deployments on Azure and AWS

We’re excited to announce that beginning with SAS Viya 2025.10, you can now deploy the SAS Viya platform across multiple availability zones (AZs) in both Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS).

This new capability enhances the high availability (HA) and resilience already provided by Kubernetes and your SAS workload placement strategy helping minimize downtime and improve reliability for critical analytics workloads.

The key requirements for this feature are:

• Zone-redundant storage (ZRS) is required for persistent volumes to ensure cross-zone data availability.
• SAS Viya deployment High Availability transformer must be added to support scaling and recovery across zones.

The current limitations:

• Only the SAS Viya Enterprise and SAS Visual Investigator offering are supported.
• Multi-zone deployments are currently supported within a single cloud region.
• Deployments using the internal SAS PostgreSQL server are not yet supported.
• Other SAS products and workloads (including CAS and Compute jobs) may require manual recovery after a zone failure.

SAS plans to expand multi-zone support and address current limitations in future releases.
